behold the master's work

I only spent a few minutes in my classroom today (because I'm trying not to obsess), and I did bring my camera but alas, the battery died after two photos. So you get to see the part of my office that looks reasonable:

Note the beautiful wall on which hangs a found white board, cute little Goodwill plaque of a French bookstore, and my new IKEA mirror, the MALMA (which I'm pretty sure means 'pig snout' in Swedish; I'll double check later). Love it! Can't wait to have a stack of stuff to grade while I drink tea from my 'Meticulosity' mug.

And then. This is actually what you see as you walk in:

Like I said before, if you don't look toward the ceiling or the left wall, it's all good. Well, except for the gigantic holes left behind from I-don't-know-what kind of torture device was stored in this room. I have a big bulletin board to cover them (just to the right out of frame), but those unreachable parts...Sigh. I left the paint & supplies at school so I can finish the job with a real live ladder, and fellow teachers to provide the superhuman strength required to move that bookcase.
But overall I'm very excited to start school. A classroom of my own again! It's been 10 years. Technically I had a room of my own last fall with the Home Ec class, but I didn't get to set it up. And there was the stage situation last spring, but again I didn't have much creative license. This is completely mine, and I don't have to pack it up and hide it at the end of each day. Happy happy joy joy.
