worthwhile

Have you hugged a teacher today (National Teacher Day)? It's okay if not, because we're not really allowed to do that anymore. Here is what I got instead of the forbidden body contact:

Dear Mrs. S,
I want you to know that I sincerely appreciate all that you have taught me this past school year. Speech class was especially interesting and helpful. I first saw it as something to dread, but eventually came to see it as a step toward something I wanted. I was removed from my comfort zone so many times and learned to handle my nerves when I got into a panic in front of a group. You helped me pass my board with confidence. I gladly thank you for all your hard work, because it helped me get through mine.

Dear S [he calls us by our last names only, no prefix; it makes me feel like one of his homies],
Thank you for helping me practice my speech. I was glad you took the time after school to help me.

Dear Mrs. S,
I'd like to thank you for all the help you've given me with my project and speech. I've learned a lot in your class and it helped me pass my board. I'm thankful for finding this school because it changed my viewpoint; it's not as bad as a lot of people make it sound. All high school is is a hurdle to get over before reality hits you, and I'm glad you've helped me on that journey.

Dear Mrs. S,
Thank you so much for the support & help you gave me even when I was an ass in your class. For that I apologize. You're an amazing teacher and I appreciate the time you took in your class to help me and all of the senior class prepare for the biggest speech I've ever done. Thank you so much, Mrs. S.

These make all of those Bad Teacher days disappear. The last one especially gave me a hitch in my breathing because truly & seriously, that boy gave me 90 minutes of grief every.single.period. But now, *poof* All gone.
