My goals on this journey were to a) check out parts of SF that I hadn't seen before, b) get some exercise (HA!), and c) find a cute local diner/coffee shop/bakery/bistro/anything for lunch.
Here are the results; please enjoy, but also feel the burn a little, would ya?
Little did I know I should have taken the hot air balloon.
Buildings playing hide & seek at Union Square.
But wait! You should eat now, over there!
Pretty pretty Chanel boutique
Scary scary Ed Hardy boutique (but skulls can be fun!)
Another omen about flying instead of walking...
Entering Chinatown
Love the mix of old designs with tacky modern.
Off toward Nob Hill; not yet starving.
The noise from this Irish pub was impressive. At 11 a.m.
Mon dieu, I had no idea this would be my last chance at a sandwich before 3 p.m.
Perhaps another TURN BACK warning from the ghost of Dashiell Hammett?
I pray with the woman on the steps that we both find food soon.
Taking pictures of buildings distracts me from rising hunger.
I scale this hill on the power of one Mojo bar and a chai latte from two hours before.
Why am I the only one suffering a heart attack at this point?
I continued to walk and walk and walk in a fugue state. I kid you not, there were no fun little cafe-type stops along Washington OR Van Ness; maybe because it was Sunday or maybe they were invisible to my Muggle eye like Number 12 Grimmauld Place, but I could not find a single place to sit & eat that wasn't grimy and/or doubling as a gas station. Until...
How 1950s adorable will this be?!
Neverfuckingmind.
Going my way? NO.
In my calorie-deprived, exertion-induced stupor, I stopped at a terrace and looked up to realize the view. They have food at Alcatraz still?? But frick, I don't swim.
Unbelievably, I didn't feel like eating chocolate at that point. Clearly I was ill from the trek.
Yeah, yeah, love the bridge.
Bliss, at last.

For some reason I feel that if I were with you I would have been involved in some sort of piggy-back/sherpa arrangement.

I luuuuved your little tour! I was cracking up, especially with the "yeah, yeah, love the bridge" comment.
SF is on my very short list of "cities I WILL visit before I turn old and putrid" I'm already halfway to old and some days feel putrid, but not old AND putrid at same time YET.
so one of these days I'm gonna get there. I hope you will have found some cute little eateries to recommend!
All winding, hilly, architectural-lined roads lead to In-N-Out Burger.
Glad you found some fatty sustenance before you croaked on us!
Yum..In and Out...
And, guess I can cross SanFran off my list of places to visit, I feel like I've been there!
Great pictures! I could have used the burger and the Irish pub on Sunday...
Great Harry Potter reference. Yeah for In and Out. Great pictures. I love treks like this one.
Speaking from the Irish point of view, we would have gladly fed you at 11 a.m.
I think I may have lost my way in that pub.
(It was all very pretty. Best part about taking long walks.)
Oh. My. God. I think I took that exact same tour 12 years ago...on my honeymoon...WITH MY MOTHER-IN-LAW...and she (who speaks absolutly no friggin' English!!) was leading the way. Sorry...I still have a bad taste in my mouth from that...but....
a trip to the In-N-Out Burger place would make me a happy camper!!
I so do love that place!!! If I lived in California, I'd weigh a ton...but I'd be oh so very happyhappyhappy!!!
Okay...so bad taste is gone...happy thoughts...love the pictures!!!
(why didn't you go to the pub?! you could have at least grabbed a chip or hunky guy to guide you to real food?!?!)
Of all the BlogHer Blogging going down right now, I find myself enjoying yours the most...because I feel that I would have been in the same boat.
San Francisco is way too gorgeous to spend your time in the florescent glow of conference rooms...even rooms with neon Grover cookies (that's just freakin' scary!).
I would love to know more about just why you and BlogHer didn't click, but I can understand if it's just too personal. These things take time, sweetie. You have a week.
